Word 2007: Using Track Changes

Tracking revisions has been around for quite some time. And, it should be no surprise that it’s still around.

In this lesson, we’re going to go into revisions in detail by looking at how to turn the track revisions feature on and cycle through all revisions as you decide which suggestions you take and which you’ll discard.

When using Track Changes, Microsoft Word will record who is making which changes each time an edit is made.

Tracking Changes

  1.  Click the Track Changes drop-down arrow in the Changes group on the Review tab
  3. Choose Track Changes

Accepting & Rejecting Changes

Once you and others have made revisions to the document, you’re ready to review what they’ve suggested and determine which changes you’d like to keep and which ones you’d like to throw out. To review what others have suggested and changed, you can view the Reviewing Pane.

Viewing the Reviewing Pane

  1.  Choose the Reviewing Pane command in the Tracking group on the Review tab
  3. Choose either Reviewing Pane Vertical… or Reviewing Pane Horizontal…

Accepting or Rejecting Changes

To Accept or Reject changes made while Track Changes was enabled, simply select an edit and choose either Accept or Reject from the Changes group on the Review tab. You can also use the Previous and Next commands (in the same group) to navigate through the changes.
