Excel 2003: Data Entry Techniques

What good is an Excel 2003 file without any data in it? Well, now that you know how to move around in a worksheet, it’s a good idea to learn how to enter and edit data. The easiest way to learn is to just start typing.

Seriously. That’s really all there is to it. Simply position your cursor in the cell you want the text to appear in and being typing. Just be sure to hit [Enter] when you are done.

Entering Text Directly in a Cell

     
  1. Select the cell

  3. Begin typing
     
  4.  
  5. Press [ENTER]
     

Entering Text Using the Formula Bar

     
  1. Select the cell
     
  2.  
  3. Click in the Formula Bar
     
  4.  
  5. Begin typing
     
  6.  
  7. Press [ENTER]
     

Editing Text Directly in a Cell

     
  1. Double-click the cell you want to edit
     
  2.  
  3. Use the arrow keys to position your cursor

  5. Make your edits
