Word 2007: Go To, Find & Replace

You already know how to create a Word document and you know all sorts of different ways to view your document. But, do you know how to quickly find a specific word or phrase? Or, can you quickly jump to a specific page?

Go To

The Go To feature quickly moves your cursor to a desired location. All you need to know is the page or section number.

Activating Go To Using the Ribbon

     
  1. From the Home Tab, click the Find drop-down arrow in the Editing Group
  2.  
  3. Choose Go To
  4.  
  5. Enter a page number
  6.  
  7. Click OK

  1. Press [F5]
  2.  
  3. Enter a page number
  4.  
  5. Click OK



 

Find

The Find feature quickly searches your document for a specific word, phrase or data in your document. This is particularly useful when searching for data that appears more than once.

Using Find to Locate Data

     
  1. From the Home Tab, click the Find drop-down arrow in the Editing Group
  2.  
  3. Choose Find
  4.  
  5. Click Options to expand the Dialog Box
  6.  
  7. Enter your data in the Find What: box (such as ABC Corporation)
  8.  
  9. Set your options. For instance, you may want to match the case or use wildcards.
  10.  
  11. Click Find Next
  12.  
  13. When you are finished searching your document, click Close



Replace

The Replace feature actually works in conjunction with the Find feature by first searching for specific text or formatting and then replacing it with new text or formatting.

Using Replace to Modify Data

     
  1. From the Home Tab, click Replace in the Editing Group
  2.  
  3. Click Options to expand the Dialog Box
  4.  
  5. Enter your data in the Find What: Box (such as ABC Corporation)
  6.  
  7. Enter your data in the Replace With: Box (such as XYZ Industries)
  8.  
  9. Set your options.
  10.  
  11. Click Replace or Replace All
  12.  
  13. When you are finished searching your document, click Close

If you’re a keyboard fan, you can use keyboard shortcuts to open the Go To, Find & Replace dialog boxes.
