Word 2007: Editing SmartArt

In this lesson, you’re going to get the step-by-step instructions for many of the editing features available when working with SmartArt.

Working with the Text Pane

Using the Text pane is the easiest place not only to edit the text for the SmartArt shapes, but it’s so simple here to add and remove shapes, as well.

The Text Pane only appears when you request it by clicking the button located on the left edge of any SmartArt graphic.

And, once you click away from the SmartArt graphic, the Text pane disappears.

  9. Press [Tab] or [Shift]+[Tab] in front of any text to denote a hierarchy

Working with SmartArt Layouts, Colors & Styles

You know that when you created your SmartArt graphic, you were asked to choose from a number of different layouts (depending on the SmartArt category). But, even after your SmartArt has been created and the text has been entered, you can change your mind.

Plus, you can change colors and entire styles to make your SmartArt look exactly the way you envisioned.

Changing the SmartArt Graphic Layout

  1. Select the SmartArt Graphic

  2.
  3. Using the SmartArt Layout Gallery (see below), choose the layout you want

A SmartArt Style is a combination of various effects, such as line style, bevel, or 3-D, that you can apply to the shapes in your SmartArt graphic to create a unique and professionally designed look.
