PowerPoint 2007: Using Table Contextual Tabs

As soon as you created your first table, you probably noticed not one, but two new contextual tabs for tables – Design and Layout.

Now, for the most part, the tabs you see when working with graphics are fairly similar with just a few variations.

The tab above is what you’ll see when working with the overall design of your table.

The tab below is what you’ll see when working with the layout of your table.

Since all of these groups are new; meaning, they haven’t yet been introduced in this course, the text below is meant to describe your table options.

The Table Style Options group can be found on the Table Tools Design Contextual Tab and works in conjunction with the Tables Styles group to set specific options associated with selected table styles.

The Table Style group can be found on the Table Tools Design Contextual Tab and works in conjunction with the Table Style Options group to apply whole table formatting, shading and borders.

The WordArt Styles group on the Tables Tools Design Contextual Tab contains commands for working with WordArt. This group also contains a Dialog Box Launcher which opens the Format Text Effects Dialog Box.

Figure 7. Draw Borders Group

The Draw Borders group is the final group on the Table Tools Design Contextual Tab and contains commands for drawing and erasing tables, rows and columns. This group also contains commands for customizing a table’s border style, weight and color.

 

               

The Table group can be found on the Table Tools Layout Contextual Tab. This group contains a command for controlling whether you can see a tables gridlines. Plus, you can also find a selection command in this group.

Figure 9. Rows & Columns Group

The Rows & Columns group can be found on the Table Tools Layout Contextual Tab and contains commands for inserting and deleting rows and columns to an existing table.

The Merge group can be found on the Table Tools Layout Contextual Tab and contains only two commands – Merge Cells and Split Cells.

The Cell Size group can be found on the Table Tools Layout Contextual Tab. This group contains commands for adjusting the height of your rows and the width of your columns.

The Alignment group can be found on the Table Tools Layout Contextual Tab and contains commands for text alignment within individual table cells.

The Table Size group can be found on the Table Tools Layout Contextual Tab. This group contains commands for adjusting the height and width of your table.

The Arrange group, found on the Table Tools Layout Contextual Tab, contains commands for layering and aligning your table and slide objects.
