PowerPoint 2003: Using Bullets & Numbering

Adding bullets and numbering to your presentation is a surefire way to make sets of data standout from the rest of the type.

Bullets

PowerPoint 2003 comes loaded with tons of bullets, pictures and number formats you can use to add visual interest to your document.

By default, PowerPoint adds a simple, circular bullet when you click the Bullets command on the Formatting toolbar. But, as with most available formatting options, you always can make changes to improve upon the original.

Creating a Bulleted List Using the Formatting Toolbar
     
  1. Type your list entries pressing [Enter] after each entry
     
  2.  
  3. Select your list
     
  4.  
  5. Click the Bullets command on the Formatting toolbar
     
Creating a Bulleted List by Typing
     
  1. Type * (asterisk)
     
  2.  
  3. Press [Tab]
     
  4.  
  5. Type your first list entry
     
  6.  
  7. Press [Enter]
     
Continuing a Bulleted List
     
  1. Position your cursor at the end of the last list entry
     
  2.  
  3. Press [Enter]
     
Modifying the Format of a Bullet
     
  1. Select the paragraph mark () at the end of the bullet you want to modify
     
  2.  
  3. Apply formatting (such as Bold, Italic, Underline)
     
Removing Bullets from a List
     
  1. Select the Bulleted List
     
  2.  
  3. Click the Bullets command on the Formatting toolbar
     

In addition to using the Bullets command on the Formatting toolbar, you can fully customize your bullets or change your bullets to pictures by choosing Format: Bullets and Numbering… from the Menu bar.

Defining a New Bullet Symbol
     
  1. Choose Format: Bullets and Numbering… from the Menu bar

    2.       Click Customize…

    3.       Select a symbol

    4.       Click OK

    5.       Click OK



Defining a New Bullet Picture
     
  1. Choose Format: Bullets and Numbering… from the Menu bar
     
  2.  
  3. Click Picture…

Numbering

By default, PowerPoint adds a simple, number bullet when you click the Numbering command on the Formatting toolbar.

Just like with bullets, however, you’re almost never stuck with the default format. Numbering formats can be changed by choosing Format: Bullets and Numbering from the Menu bar.

Creating a Numbered List Using the Toolbar
     
  1. Type your list entries pressing [Enter] after each entry

  5. Click the Numbering command on the Formatting toolbar

  1. Choose Format: Bullets and Numbering… from the Menu bar

  3. Click the Numbered tab
