PowerPoint 2003: Formatting & Resizing Charts

With Excel 2003’s charting feature, the possibilities of how your chart can appear are almost endless. Below are just a few of the step-by-steps commands that are available.

Changing the Chart Type
     
  1. Double-click the chart to activate it
     
  2.  
  3. Click the Chart Type command on the Standard toolbar
     
  4.  
  5. Select a new chart type
     
  6.  
  7. Click OK
     
Add a Chart Title
     
  1. Double-click the chart to activate it
     
  2.  
  3. Choose Chart: Chart Options… from the Menu bar

    3.       Type a title for your chart in the Chart title box

    4.       Click OK



Changing the Legend Position
     
  1. Double-click the chart to activate it
     
  2.  
  3. Choose Chart: Chart Options… from the Menu bar
     
  4.  
  5. Display the Legend tab

    4.       Click the checkbox next to Show legend

    5.       Select a new legend position

    6.       Click OK

Adding Data Labels

     
  1. Double-click the chart to activate it
     
  2.  
  3. Choose Chart: Chart Options… from the Menu bar
     
  4.  
  5. Display the Data Labels tab

    4.       Select a data label

    5.       Click OK



Changing the Gridlines Display
     
  1. Double-click the chart to activate it
     
  2.  
  3. Choose Chart: Chart Options… from the Menu bar
     
  4.  
  5. Display the Gridlines tab

    4.       Select a new gridlines display

    5.       Click OK

Resizing a Chart by Dragging
     
  1. Double-click the chart to activate it
     
  2.  
  3. Position the mouse pointer on the lower-right corner of the selected chart
     
  4.  
  5. Drag to resize the chart
