Excel 2007: Tracing Dependents

A dependent is a cell that contains a formula that refers to other cells. In our example (above), the arrow points to the dependent. In other words, this formula result is dependent upon the points of origin, or precedents.

Tracing Dependents Using the Ribbon

     
  1. Click any cell referenced by a formula
     
  2.  
  3.  Click the Trace Dependents command in the Formula Auditing group on the Formula tab
     

Removing Dependent Tracers

     
  1.  Click the Remove Arrows drop-down arrow in the Formula Auditing group on the Formula tab
     
  2.  
  3. Choose Remove Dependent Arrows
