Excel 2003: Hiding Columns & Rows

Being able to hide rows and columns can really come in handy when you only need to display or print small sets of information stored with larger sets of data.

In the example (below), the first worksheet is the original, while the smaller second worksheet contains only the summary information. Instead of creating a new worksheet, this result can be accomplished simply by hiding the data you don’t want to see or print.

Hiding a Row Using the Menu Bar

     
  1. Select the row(s) you want to hide
     
  2.  
  3. Click Format on the Menu bar
     
  4.  
  5. Choose Row: Hide
     

Hiding a Column Using the Menu Bar

     
  1. Select the column(s) you want to hide
     
  2.  
  3. Click Format on the Menu bar
     
  4.  
  5. Choose Column: Hide

  1. Select the column(s) or row(s) you want to hide
     
  2.  
  3. Right-click the selected headings
     
  4.  
  5. Choose Hide from the Shortcut menu

  1. Select the column(s) or row(s) before and after the column(s) or row(s) you want to unhide
     
  2.  
  3. Right-click the selected headings
     
  4.  
  5. Choose Unhide from the Shortcut menu

NOTE: If you accidentally hide Column A, since there is no column to select before Column A, you’ll need to click the Select Button in the upper-left corner of your worksheet before you can choose Unhide from the Shortcut menu.
