Excel 2003: Basic Functions

Next to AutoSum, there are a few additional functions that are the top of the popularity list. I’ve listed them below.

The Min function is used to calculate the minimum number in a range.

The Max function is used to calculate the maximum number in a range.

The Average function is used to calculate the average number in a range.

Using the Min function

     
  1. Select the cell where the result should appear
     
  2.  
  3. Click the drop-down arrow on the AutoSum command on the Standard toolbar
     
  4.  
  5. Choose Min from the list
     
  6.  
  7. Verify the formula is correct
     
  8.  
  9. Press [Enter]
     

Using the Max function

     
  1. Select the cell where the result should appear
     
  2.  
  3. Click the drop-down arrow on the AutoSum command on the Standard toolbar
     
  4.  
  5. Choose Max from the list
     
  6.  
  7. Verify the formula is correct
     
  8.  
  9. Press [Enter]
     

Using the Average function

     
  1. Select the cell where the result should appear
     
  2.  
  3. Click the drop-down arrow on the AutoSum command on the Standard toolbar

  5. Choose Average from the list
     
  6.  
  7. Verify the formula is correct
